Summer is a great time to kick back, relax and spend even more time on your mobile phone. But with so many mobile phone apps out there, it’s hard to know which ones you should be downloading.
Don’t worry. We’ve done all the hard work for you.
The Tunnel presents the 5 must have mobile phone apps this summer.
1. What’s The Weather Like
Knowing what the weather’s like is very important if you want to spend time on your mobile phone all day. But most weather apps are far too complicated. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a simple app that just showed you what the sky looked like? That’s what What’s The Weather Like does and it’s fantastic. An old-fashioned, no nonsense weather indicator, this app shows you a picture of the sky and empowers you to make your own call about the weather, just like your grandparents did. But unlike them, you don’t have to get up off the couch to do it.
2. Are We There Yet?
Sick of being asked by the kids during car trips if you’ve reached your destination? This wonderful app solves the problem for you. There’s only one thing kids love more than asking “Are We There Yet?” and that’s looking at a mobile phone. With the Are We There Yet? app, children can direct their annoying questions to a phone by noiselessly pressing a button. It keeps children amused for hours and lets you text and drive with your own phone without being distracted.
3. Backyard Cricket DRS
One of the great joys of summer is sitting on the back deck reading Facebook on your mobile phone. And it’s even better if the kids are playing cricket in the yard, leaving you in peace. But every so often – like every two minutes – a parent is called upon to adjudicate on a disputed run out or LBW. With Backyard Cricket DRS, you can make a quick and authoritative backyard cricket decision with the press of a button – and without even having seen what happened. Trust us, kids may not respect authority but they respect a decision if it’s delivered by an iPhone.
4. How Drunk Am I?
This wonderful little mobile phone app answers the eternal question by displaying images of dubious looking men and women and asking if you find them attractive. But the killer feature is the half-naked picture of Tony Abbott that pops up every so often. Using your phone’s movement sensors, the app measures how quickly you recoil – or don’t move at all – and thus how drunk you are.
5. Christmas Card SMS Generator
Writing Christmas cards – or worse still, thinking about writing Christmas cards – takes up a lot of time that could be better spent being on your iPhone or Android device. Christmas Card SMS Generator takes the stress out of Christmas by sending random SMSes to everyone in your mobile phone’s address book in the weeks leading up to December 25. You can customise the messages or, better still, just let the app include a topical and fun fact about the year. Here’s an example:
Merry Christmas Mum. It is great to be a member of your family. I feel blessed that Michelle Payne was the first woman to ride the winner of the Melbourne Cup. Have a happy 2016.
Have a great summer on your phones, everyone!
