Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has turned his attention to winning the overseas boat.
In an audacious policy announcement, Mr Abbott has pledged up to $20 million to purchase Indonesian fishing boats so that they can be taken into account at the next Federal Election.
The Opposition Leader was unapologetic about allowing anyone, anywhere to cast their boat for a Coalition government.
“It’s much better to spend a few thousand dollars in Indonesia than spend a few million dollars processing people as Coalition supporters once they arrive here.”
Mr Abbott said that the Coalition’s purchase of overseas boats would ensure stability for Australia and make the need for costly Federal elections unnecessary in the long run.
The move would also make opinion polling cheaper by allowing South East Asian call centres to contact boaters at the cost of a local call.
However, some international observers have been alarmed by the Tony Abbott boat buy back scheme.
“From our inspections of Indonesian fishing ports, there is already a lot of boat rigging,” said one United Nations official.
