In an unlikely turn of events, respected lawyer and activist Amal Alamuddin is to marry George Clooney, the nephew of singer Rosemary Clooney.
Whilst Ms Alamuddin’s work in law and with the United Nations is well known, the world is still learning about the famous singer’s nephew who stole her heart.
According to Mr Clooney’s Wikipedia page, he is a university dropout who has acted in the TV series Facts of Life and the 1988 film Return of the Killer Tomatoes.
While many people are confused why a trilingual Oxford graduate would want to marry Rosemary Clooney’s nephew, others see the match as an inspiration for men hoping to move up in the world by marrying the woman of their dreams.
As a columnist for respected Australian broadsheet The Australian put it: “Although George Clooney hasn’t achieved anything important like Amal Alamuddin, he’s getting married. And that’s a great achievement for a man.”
Clooney happy to stay out of limelight
According to someone who knows Clooney well, the actor is happy to remain in Ms Alamuddin’s shadow.
“Men are used to being described in terms of their relationships to women,” says Cate Blanchett’s husband, Andrew Upton.
“For George, he’s always been Rosemary Clooney’s nephew or that guy who was on TV with Julianna Margulies.”
“From now on, George Clooney will be known as Amal Alamuddin’s husband.”
“And who wouldn’t be proud of that?”
