Prime Minister Julia Gillard has moved quickly to address the looming crisis of Australia’s ageing population by announcing a new deal where the Government will send 500 octogenarians to Malaysia in exchange for 4,000 younger people.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has criticised the Malaysia trade deal saying it is no more than an expensive rip-off of the Coalition’s plan to turn Nauru into a lifestyle community.
Mr Abbott also said the Opposition’s direct action policy was the best way to deal with Australia’s ageing population.
“I’m pleased to announce Dr Philip Nitschke will be heading up our direct action team to deal with this problem head on.”
