In an ugly morning on Australian public transport, large groups of commuters have booed the stream of stories about Adam Goodes on their mobile phones.
But those involved in the booing have been quick to defend their actions.
“The booing has nothing to do with racism,” says one commuter.
“We just want to read Facebook but every single story is about Adam Goodes.”
“People are just expressing their frustration.”
But defenders of Adam Goodes have labelled such explanations as hypocritical.
“I’ve never seen a bus full of commuters boo their phones when every Facebook story is about cats,” tweeted Greens Senator Scott Ludlam.
Others are not so sure.
“Comparing Adam Goodes to a cat is more racist than booing him for non-racist reasons!!!” tweeted CatGirl1992.
Employers have reported high levels of absenteeism as many people find themselves lost in an Adam Goodes cat pictures internet rabbit hole.
Sydney broadcaster Alan Jones has tried to restore sanity to the situation.
“I make a point of trying to boo everything. And so should everyone else.”
“Then this whole racism malarkey would be a non-issue.”
