The Brisbane City Council has revealed the outcome of its long-awaited bus network review.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has announced that nine bus routes will be removed under the proposed plan and 80 routes will be changed.
Most importantly, however, 19 routes will be improved, with buses being replaced by hovercraft.
“Ultimately the big win for the community is that we will have hovercraft,” said the Lord Mayor.
“Hovercraft are cooler than buses and they will be able to carry more passengers and remain operational even when it floods.”
“Just like the CityCats, the new fleet of hovercraft will become a distinctive and much cherished feature of Brisbane’s world-class public transport system.”
Brisbane commuters have been asked to comment on the review online.
