Campbell Newman has dismissed ongoing criticism of his LNP government, stating that he is now more popular than Facebook.
“People are sick and tired of Facebook and are deserting it in droves,” said the Premier. “But support for my government and its policies remains rock solid, despite the so-called critics.”
To back up his claims, Mr Newman cited a recent study that suggests that Facebook will lose 80% of its users by 2017.
“In three years, Facebook will be dead. Meanwhile my LNP government will still be in power in Queensland with more than 50% of the vote. It goes to show that social media – just like a Labor government – is a fad that people quickly tire of.”
To mark the passing of Facebook, Mr Newman said that he had ordered his staff to shut down his own account as soon as possible.
“I have closed down schools and aged care facilities because they were no longer viable. It would be hypocritical if I didn’t do the same thing with my Facebook account.”
The Premier said that the 15 staffers who currently maintain his social media presence will be redeployed to more meaningful work, such as limiting free speech and intimidating the arts sector.
