The make-up of the Senate has taken another unexpected turn after Clive Palmer replaced Tasmanian senator-elect Jacqui Lambie with a giraffe.
Mr Palmer has explained that his decision to replace Ms Lambie with a giraffe was in line with world’s best practice.
“I’ve read that people all over the world on Facebook are getting replaced by giraffes if they can’t answer a simple question about someone coming to the door,” said Mr Palmer.
“Jacqui Lambie was asked an even easier question about our memorandum of understanding and she got it wrong. I don’t know how she thinks a written memorandum is a handshake but she does. She’s obviously an idiot so I’ve replaced her with a giraffe.”
Mr Palmer said that he would be surprised if Tasmanian voters were upset by the move.
“It’s not like many Tasmanians voted for us in the first place. If anything, I think the giraffe thing will make the Palmer United Party more popular than before. The parliament is a bloody zoo anyway from what I’ve seen.”
Mr Palmer’s giraffe was unavailable for comment.
