Clive Palmer has confirmed that he is in negotiations to have the body of Nelson Mandela brought to Queensland after the South African icon’s death.
If the multi-million dollar bid is successful, the body of the former South African president will become a permanent exhibit at the Palmer Coolum Resort.
“I have said all along that Australia needs a great leader,” said Palmer. “With Nelson Mandela, Australia will have simply the best. What’s more, Queensland will gain a world-class tourist atraction to rival the tombs of Lenin, Mao and Ho Chi Minh.”
Palmer has assured the Mandela family that his proposed Mandela mausoleum will be placed a “respectful” distance from the Coolum resort’s golf course and giant dinosaur. Palmer has also indicated that he is willing for Mr Mandela’s body to remain in South Africa for an indefinite length of time after his funeral.
“My companies have a lot of expertise in digging things out of the ground overseas. However long the family would like to wait before we mine Mr Mandela is fine by me.”
