In a shock move, Clive Palmer has resigned from the Palmer United Party.
The decision of the Palmer United Party head to leave the party he founded follows a string of high profile departures, including Senators Jacqui Lambie and Glenn Lazarus.
“I have today resigned from the Palmer United Party,” said a tearful Mr Palmer.
“This was a difficult decision.”
Mr Palmer said that the situation within the PUP had become unworkable.
“What everyone has been saying is true.”
“I looked around the empty party room the other day and I couldn’t find anyone willing to listen to me either.”
Mr Palmer said that his resignation from the Palmer United Party was a show of solidarity towards those who had already left.
Mr Palmer hopes to persuade disgruntled former PUP members to join him in a new political party based on his own political beliefs.
