Supporters of Greg Combet are confident that he has the numbers to depose Bill Shorten as future leader of the Federal Labor party.
A parliamentary colleague, speaking on the basis of anonymity, said that Shorten’s days as future leader were numbered.
“The majority of the caucus has lost confidence in where Bill might take us as leader, should the point come that he becomes our leader; that being the point after we lose confidence in Julia (if that happens).”
“Although some might see a move to challenge Shorten as Labor backstabbing gone mad, it’s really just sensible succession planning.”
Future Prime Minister Tony Abbott was too busy campaigning for a second term of government to commment.
