The ALP has expressed outrage at Indonesian reports that Australian Customs officials paid bribes to people smugglers.
“That’s not the way things are done in Australia,” says one Labor backbencher.
“Customs officials should not be doing the work of union officials.”
“You don’t see union officials enforcing border protection.”
“So you shouldn’t see Customs officials involved in bribery.”
Federal Opposition leader Bill Shorten says he knows nothing about the latest bribery allegations, especially if they involve him.
