As Cyclone Marcia bears down on the people of Central Queensland, the destructive storm has been almost as distressing for members of Queensland’s recently deposed LNP government.
A former state MP – who we will call Tom – says he can only think of what might have been.
“Campbell Newman was born for a situation like this.”
“Just like the floods in 2011, he would have shown strong leadership in a crisis.”
“People would have respected that and we would have won the election.”
Tom said the irony that this opportunity had been lost by Campbell Newman calling an early election was “a Category 5 kick in the nuts”.
“We were praying for an act of God to save us all January and it’s come 3 weeks too late,” moaned Tom.
“The only perfect storm that came was the one that blew us out of office on election night.”
Tom doesn’t care whether new Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk proves as good in a crisis as her predecessor.
“Every time I see her on TV briefing the public about Cyclone Marcia, I want to cry,” he said.
“Not even that goofy guy next to her doing sign language can cheer me up.”
