FIFA President Sepp Blatter has defended the world body’s decision to award next year’s Brisbane junior soccer season to Qatar.
“The bidding process was fair and transparent. Ultimately, the choice was between 14 suburban parks or six purpose-built air-conditioned stadia. On any view, the best bid prevailed.”
Mitch Neville of the Brisbane Junior Soccer Association expressed disappointment with the decision.
“As parents of kids who play sport, you expect to travel but, even so, we thought our bid to hold the Brisbane junior soccer season in Brisbane made a lot of sense.”
“The fact that the 24 man FIFA Executive voted in favour of Qatar 36 votes to 1 really has us scratching our heads.”
Bookmakers have reacted to the decision by installing newcomers Kedron El Al Qatari United Jr as favourites to sweep next season’s titles.
