The football world is abuzz with news that Julia Gillard has been linked to the vacant managerial position at Manchester United. Although Everton manager David Moyes is expected to be announced as replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson, Ms Gillard is hotly tipped to be appointed as assistant manager.
“David Moyes is a fantastic manager but he lacks international experience,” says SBS football analyst Craig Foster. “Having someone like Julia Gillard alongside him would be a real asset. Julia’s been a significant player on the international stage and is used to working with highly paid egomaniacs. After managing Kevin Rudd all these years, Robin Van Persie will be a doddle.”
Manchester United fans, women’s groups and the backbench of the Federal ALP have all welcomed the news of Gillard’s link to the club.
“It’s about time Big Red got with some winners,” said Yessa-Rooney, a contributor to ManUnitedForever.com.
Ms Gillard has so far refused to comment on the Manchester United rumours. However, the Prime Minister’s office has confirmed that her schedule will be free later this year when the Premier League season begins.
