Coalition deputy Julie Bishop has ruled out challenging for the Federal leadership.
Instead, Ms Bishop has pledged her loyalty to the Prime Minister, whoever he turns out to be when Tony Abbott is replaced in coming weeks.
“I have always been a loyal deputy,” said Ms Bishop.
“I am currently a loyal deputy to Tony Abbott.”
“Just like I was a loyal deputy to Malcolm Turnbull.”
“And to Brendan Nelson before that.”
“The government needs stability. That’s why I will always be loyal to the leader of the Coalition, whichever man the party room appoints.”
When asked if she would continue to give Tony Abbott her 100% support, Ms Bishop was forthright.
“I have already given my 100% support to Mr Abbott. If I gave him my 100% support again, it would mean I was giving him my 200% support.”
“And that’s just nonsensical.”
“It would be like giving an Australian knighthood to a member of the British royal family!”
