Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has written on his parenting blog about the pain at having failed his children over the last three years.
In the latest post on his daddy blog, Father of the Nation, Rudd writes:
I am profoundly aware that over the last three years I have not been there for you, my 22 million children.
I have been too selfish – too busy worrying about myself and my own personal hurt – to understand the pain and distress that you were suffering in the care of that sinister red-headed nanny who I once considered my loyal servant.
Thankfully, with the support of Mother Therese, I have come to my senses and can be your father again.
Do not worry, my children. I will be here for you always, from now on.
I will make sure that the nasty Mr Abbott will never steal you away.
He is the cruel master you beats Black Beauty. He is the man who wants to eat the Smurfs. He does not like Lego or Peppa Pig or letting you play with the iPhone. I love all of these things.
And I love you.
I know we must all fail during our lives, my precious ones. But I promise you from the bottom of my heart that, after this one false start, I will never fail you again.
