Premier Campbell Newman has confirmed his LNP government is downsizing its Queensland operations.
The announcement comes after the resignation of several LNP MPs and the party’s defeat at the Stafford by-election.
“Everyone knows the LNP has got too many people on the payroll,” said Mr Newman.
“Getting rid of excess staff is good economics and a win for smaller government.”
“The more people we can get rid of the better.”
Stafford by-election loss a “big win” for LNP
Mr Newman said he was delighted the LNP was trounced at the Stafford by-election.
“I’d be a liar if I said the Queensland Treasury didn’t have a ton on our red-headed guy losing by 15 plus.”
“But rest assured, my government isn’t always about backing losers.”
“The LNP’s big win on the Stafford by-election will be used straight away to pay redundancies for more public servants.”
Mr Newman was confident that LNP downsizing would continue in even greater numbers at the next state election.
