Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has revealed that the removal of two government Ministers on the same day is merely part of a new Minister rotation policy.
Mr Turnbull said that he was “resting” Mal Brough and Jamie Briggs, not dropping them from his Ministerial team.
“Mal Brough has had a very busy year. A quick look at his diary will show that.”
“By which I mean Mal Brough’s own diary, not any other diaries he might have.”
“But let me just make this point – the fact that Mal Brough might have more than one diary shows how busy he is and why resting him from the Ministry is such a good idea.”
Mr Turnbull said that Cities Minister Jamie Briggs has also been sent for a short spell.
“Young Ministers are no different to young racehorses.”
“It’s good to travel them – in this case, we took Jamie to Hong Kong.”
“Obviously, he’s still a bit coltish, so we’ve decided to put him away for a while.”
“When he comes back, I’m sure he’ll have furnished into a first rate Minister.”
