The Australian government has announced new environment laws to stop people from using environment laws.
Attorney-General George Brandis says the new environment laws are necessary to stop “sabotage” and “vigilante litigation” from people seeking to enforce current environment laws.
“From now on, if any so-called environment group tries to go to court to stop a mine, the Australian government will take the so-called environment group to court to stop the so-called environment group from going to court to stop a mine.”
Mr Brandis says the new enviornment laws will ensure the future of Australian miners and lawyers.
The changes will also mean that only people with legitimate environmental concerns – such as opponents of wind turbines – can be successful in court.
