In a coup for Brisbane, the new iPhone 6 will headline this month’s Brisbane Festival.
Festival artistic director Noel Staunton confirmed the new Apple smartphone will make a one-off appearance in Brisbane on 18 September, 24 hours before it goes on sale around the world.
“This special appearance by the new iPhone 6 is the most important cultural event to hit Brisbane since Expo 88,” said Mr Staunton.
“Other than the Thermomix, I can’t think of a cultural icon that means so much to so many people.”
Mr Staunton refused to divulge details of the iPhone event, other than to say the mobile phone would be the highlight of a 30 minute Apple Corporation light and laser extravaganza above the Brisbane River.
As many as 500,000 people are expected to line the river to catch a sight of the new iPhone.
Wait for new Apple iPhone 6 begins
Diehard Apple fans have already started camping along the Brisbane River to secure the best positions for the show.
“I’ve loved iPhones all my life,” said 20 year old Shanaz Carpenter of Tingalpa.
“I can’t wait to see the new iPhone 6. Can you believe it? One day I’ll be able to tell my kids I saw the new iPhone before anyone had even bought it.”
“How amazing is that?”
