Premier Campbell Newman has vehemently defended the integrity of Peter Costello’s independent Commission of Audit into Queensland’s finances.
“People are saying there is some sort of secret agenda behind the Costello review but these sort of allegations are just rubbish,” said Mr Newman.
“Peter had a clear job to do. He was asked to independently come up with a plan to break up the unions, privatise the Queensland Government and sell it to companies run by LNP MPs.”
“Any suggestion that he has some sort of secret motivation is just absurd.”
Mr Newman also emphasised that there was a rigorous selection process before Mr Costello was appointed.
“Eddie Obeid didn’t want the job so Peter was the next best candidate.”
