Premier Campbell Newman has defended his government’s latest rounds of public sector job cuts, predicting that, in the long run, there will be no net loss of jobs in the contract workforce in Queensland.
“I want to make this perfectly clear,” said the Premier.
“Any job losses by state government contractors will be more than offset by permanent employees being given redundancies and offered contract positions.”
When asked about the resulting loss of permanent positions in the public sector, Mr Newman cited anecdotal evidence that suggested that, in the families of people he knew, the level of permanent employment had actually risen since the LNP had come to power.
