The search for missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 continues in the Indian Ocean.
The Australian search operation is being co-ordinated by Retired Air Chief Marshall Angus Houston.
The Tunnel presents a transcript of his latest press conference.
AH: Thank you for attending this briefing. We have new information on the search. I will take questions.
Q: How is the search progressing?
AH: Well, as you are aware – this search is operational and is taking place in the Indian Ocean, which is a body of water. The Australian government does not comment on on-water operations. However I am happy to answer any other questions you may have.
Q: Have you been able to make contact with the black box?
AH: We believe the black box is under the water so I am happy to talk about that.
Q: Have you found it?
AH: Unfortunately the ship searching for it, the Ocean Shield, is on the water so I can’t comment. If you could restrict your questions to non-aquatic themes that would be best.
Q: What can you tell us about the Ocean Shield.
AH: Not a lot. Most of it is on the water. I am happy to talk about decks 1, 2 and 3.
Q: Why’s that?
AH: They are below the water line.
Q: What happens there?
AH: Refugee detention. But obviously I can’t talk about that either.
Q: What can you talk about?
AH: Like everyone, the Australian government is heartbroken about the death of Peaches Geldof. Well, if the government had a heart, its heart would be broken. I think that covers things. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. I will speak to you again soon in the unlikely event that we find a plane.
