Stephen King to redesign Story Bridge

Stephen King is the surprise winner of a Brisbane City Council competition to redesign Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge.

The American writer says he is a big fan of the existing Story Bridge but feels it’s a bit too linear.

“My new design will add a series of unexpected twists and turns to the bridge’s off ramps making it much more exciting.”

Motorists who take the Cairns Street exit at Kangaroo Point can expect a series of surprise turns, to be attacked by an alien clown and then turn up in Clayfield.

The RACQ’s James Jobson is critical of the new design.

“The RACQ has long lobbied local and State Governments to duplicate the Story Bridge.”

“Our proposal for a two story bridge is what Brisbane needs not this pointless redesign.”

Mr Jobson also says the new Story Bridge will increase travel times “and if Mr King’s past work is anything to go by, will be full of plot holes.”

Even so, Mr Jobson acknowledged that the King design was more sensible and cheaper than Airport Link.
