Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced a new anti-extremism strategy.
And no one is above the new laws.
“Australia has entered a new, long-term era of heightened terrorism threat, with a much more significant home-grown element,” said Mr Abbott.
“The number of terrorists in our midst is rising.”
Mr Abbott said that he was particularly disturbed by an article he read in The Australian over the weekend.
“In November last year, a man very similar to me tried to incite a group of other Australians to launch a military attack overseas.”
“This man, who was born overseas, had been behaving strangely for several years but the authorities had done nothing to stop him.”
“Plainly, this monster should not have been in our community.”
The Prime Minister said that his new measures would ensure that these sort of extremists would no longer be a threat to everyday Australians.
